Let me introduce my hostfamily:

My current hostfamily and fourth home consists of Elle and Dan with their fabulous girls Whitney and Lacey. Elle and Dan met a few years back when Elle was visiting Quilpie and kind of never left. She grew up on a property near the coast in New South Wales with two brothers. Dan grew up on a cattle farm near Quilpie with two sisters and two brothers. Elle is a nurse/midwife in the local hospital/medical practice and Dan has his own mechanical garage where he repairs mostly big trucks and diggers.

After the first days:

Whitney is currently 2 years and 8 months old and always on the go. She is happiest being outside and running around in the backyard. She likes to draw, put on her backpack, to read books together and to do everything on her own. She is very fierce and independent and it’s likely she gets frustrated when something is not working out like she thought it would.

After Christmas:

Since I have been with Whitney her language skills developed very much and there will always be a place for her in my heart. We shared many laughter, fights, hugs, dough licking, head bumps, high fives, … Thanks for everything my big cheeky monkey.

After the first days:

Lacey will be a year old at the end of October. She loves to babble and laughs at most things her sister does. She shortly started to crawl on her knees while before she robbed her way through the house. Lacey loves to be outside and gets very excited around our pussy cats Ping and Penny (+ soon to be kitten), our dog Zoe and the chukkies and guinea pigs. She is also very observant and learns new things every day. Right now the shoe basket caught her attention.

After Christmas:

Lacey got from commando crawling to actual crawling, and then to pulling herself up and walking along everything that’s in her reach. From babbling she went to saying the first words like “Daddy”, “Mummy”, “TA”, “nani” (for baNANI, sultANI, …), “hot” and many more to come. Lacey also cut her two first upper teeth and a third one is just about to cut threw. With you my little cheeky monkey I shared lots of cuddles, my meals, tickles, singing and dancing as well as playing guitar. Thank you!

As mentioned above we have 2 cats Bing and Penny, a dog Zoe, 4 chukkies and a rooster as well as 2 guinea pigs.

Our routine

So our days start around 6.30/7.00 when the girls wake up. Everyone eats some brekki and around 8.00 latest Dan leaves for work. Elle leaves around 8.20 and then I am with the girls. Mondays and Tuesdays Elle does bookwork down at Dans workplace. Wednesdays to Fridays she is on duty at the medical practice. Most days we go outside and feed the chukkies and the guinea pigs, hang out the laundry and simply play outside. We might go the park and playground or to the library (if Lacey woke up late enough). Between 9.30 and 11.00 it’s sleepy time for Lacey. While Lacey naps Whitney and me may prepare some lunch, play inside or outside and I put her down for a nap as well (if possible while Lacey is still asleep). Down to the fact that I can never tell how long the girls will be asleep I may have some time for myself or one of the two wakes up the moment the other one falls asleep – we simply go with the flow.

Around 1.00/1.10 Dan and Elle come home for lunch and we eat something and drink a cuppa tea. About 40 minutes later I am once again alone with Whitney and Lacey. We might stay inside at this time of the day depending on the temperature. Around 2.30 or 3.00 Lacey is ready for her second nap. After her nap we go outside again, for a walk, to the library or to the grocery shop. I might cut up some veggies or prepare something else for dinner and not long after 5.00 Elle is home and my “work day” ends. Which means I might go for a swim, lay down outside or go and have a shower first. After Dan comes home between 6.30 and 7.30 we eat some dinner, watch tv and not long after that I usualy go to sleep – depending how exhausted I am.

Still this is kind of the “structure” how our days look but you never know what the next day will bring and what challenges you will face.

Mein viertes Zuhause

Lass mich dir meine Gastfamilie vorstellen: Ich teile meinen Alltag im Moment mit Elle und Dan mit ihren wunderbaren Töchtern Whitney und Lacey. Elle und Dan haben sich vor einigen Jahren kennengelernt, als Elle auf Urlaub in Quilpie war und auf eine Art und Weise dort geblieben ist. Mit zwei Brüdern wuchs sie nahe der Ostküste in New South Wales auf. Mit zwei Schwestern und zwei Brüdern wurde Dan auf einer Rinderfarm nahe Quilpie groß. Während Elle eine Krankenschwester und Hebamme ist, hat Dan seine eigene Firma als Mechaniker.

Whitney ist zurzeit 2 Jahre und 8 Monate alt (du darfst nie die Monate in diesem Alter vergessen!) und immer in Bewegung. Sehr aktiv ist sie am glücklichsten wenn sie draußen herumrennen und spielen kann. Malen, Bücher lesen, ihren Rucksack herumtragen und alles selbstständig erledigen sind ihre liebsten Sachen. Whitney ist sehr entschlossen und selbstständig und auch mal frustriert wenn etwas nicht gleich so klappt wie sie es gerne hätte.

Lacey wird Ende Oktober ein Jahr alt. Sie brabbelt gerne vor sich hin und lacht wenn sie Whitney zusieht, egal was ihre Schwester gerade im Schilde führt. Vor kurzem begann sie auf den Knien zu krabbeln, ist aber meistens dabei durch das Haus zu robben. Lacey genießt es ebenfalls draußen zu sein und wird ganz aufgeregt wenn sie eines unserer Haustiere entdeckt oder sogar “streicheln” kann. Täglich lernt sie neue Sachen und beobachtet und ganz genau. Im Moment ist es gerade der Korb voller Schuhe der sie interessiert und den sie täglich ein und ausräumt.

Zu unseren Haustieren zählen die Katze Penny (und bald auch ihr Nachwuchs), der Kater Bing, die Hündin Zoe, 4 Hühner, ein Hahn und 2 Meerschweinchen.

Der Alltag

Der Tag startet zwischen 6.30 und 7.00 abhängig davon, wann die Mädchen aufwachen. Dann gibt es erstmal Frühstück. Um spätestens 8.00 geht Dan zur Arbeit und Elle geht um ca. 8.20 und dann bin ich alleine mit den beiden. Montags und dienstags macht sie die Buchhaltung von Dans Firma und Mittwoch bis Freitag hat sie im Krankenhaus Dienst. Meistens gehen wir dann nach draußen und füttern die Tiere, hängen die Wäsche auf, gehen in den Park und zum Spielplatz oder in die Bücherei, wo sich täglich mehrere Mütter mit ihren Kindern treffen. Zwischen 9.30 und 11.00 ist es Zeit für Lacey’S Nickerchen, abhängig davon wann sie aufgewacht ist. Währenddessen sind wir mit Whitney meistens draußen oder lesen ein Buch. Noch während Lacey schläft lege ich auch die ältere Tochter in ihr Gitterbett für eine Pause. Manchmal hab ich dann ein bisschen Zeit für mich oder aber Lacey wacht auf sobald Whitney eingeschlafen ist.

Zwischen 13.00 und 13.10 kommen Elle und Dan zum Mittagessen nach Hause. Meistens habe ich schon etwas vorbereitet (Sandwiches, Wraps, Reste des Vortages) die wir dann gemeinsam Essen und anschließend gibt es eine Tasse Tee. Ca. 40 Minuten später bin ich wieder alleine mit den Girls. Zu dieser Uhrzeit bleiben wir abhängig von den Außentemperaturen meistens drinnen. Zwischen 14.30 und 15.00 lege ich Lacey wieder für ein Nickerchen nieder. Danach gehen wir oft auf einen Spaziergang, einkaufen oder in die Bücherei. Oft bereite ich noch Gemüse oder etwas anderes für das Abendessen vor. Nicht lange nach 17.00 kommt Elle nach Hause und mein “Arbeitstag” endet. Dann gehe ich oft schwimmen, lege mich draußen ins Gras um den Sonnenuntergang zu genießen oder dusche zuerst mal. Nachdem auch Dan zwischen 6.30 und 7.30 nach Hause gekommen ist, gibt es Abendessen und dann schlürfen wir oft noch eine Tasse Tee vor dem Fernseher bevor ich dann auch schon bald schlafen gehe – abhängig wie anstrengend der Tag war.

So sieht es natürlich nur ungefähr aus und jeden Tag kommen neue Herausforderungen hinzu.
